I never understand the antipathy to New Year’s Eve, or Day, or resolutions; I find the notion of the clean slate, the external impetus to renewal, very attractive. I always make resolutions, usually to do with work (along the time-honoured lines of Be Better), and I do find that this serves a purpose. Even if the aim itself is not realized.
